One of a kind creations handmade in the Shetland Islands
A Woodland Puckle is a very REAL but very RARE fairy, only found in the Shetland Islands. I say rare because there's not that many trees in Shetland, nevermind woodlands, but where there are woods, there are Puckles!
The Puckles are extremely difficult to spot though. They are very small, measuring only 1.5 cm tall, and are masters at disguising themselves. They cover themselves in dirt and mud and often wear an acorn cap...cap.
They have wings, but due to the wild weather in Shetland, it's rarely ever safe for them to fly. Instead they move around on the ground, usually disguised as blowing leaves or feathers.
What occasionally gives away their secret whereabouts though is their VERY LOUD, VERY VERY DEEP VOICES! Ten times LOUDER and DEEPER than any humans voice! So, because of this, they tend to stay quiet for most of the time.
I believe that their deep voice was once a defence mechanism, back in the day when there were more giants around. If the Puckles sensed any danger approaching, they'd mimick the "giants" by talking LOUDLY in their gruff, bellowing...Shetland accents. All the trees would shake and even the very ground would shake, quickly scaring away any predators. Nowadays though, the volume of their voices is nothing but a curse on the poor Woodland Puckles.
Although they have adapted well to their quiet, secret existence, there can be the occasional slip up, usually by the younger Puckles.
The Puckles mostly live on a diet of soups and stews made from wild mushrooms, herbs and leaves, which they forage during season, then expertly dry and store away in their hidden, tiny homes, under the tree roots. They also make a wide variety of jams and wines from wild berries and flowers.
Due to their size and quietness, they come across as shy and innocent but they're really not! Like all Fae, they are very mischievous and love to play tricks on people, and on each other too. So don't be fooled by the "quiet" peerie Puckle folk 👀🌿
